DIY Kitchen Tips

If you want to change the look and feel of your luxury holiday homes kitchen then this needn’t be a complete overhaul. You can change the tiles to add a little splash of colour, upgrade your taps to something more up to date or you can update your units by buying new doors or adding a lick of paint to them. Changing door knobs or handles is also a quick, easy and cheap way to personalise and add a little twist to things.

How to change taps:

Top tip: If using silicone, have a cup of water to wet your finger in before running it along it to smooth it. If working with any plumbing in your kitchen be sure to turn off the water supply or you may have a shower added into the bargain!

DIY Bathroom Tips

If you want to spruce up your holiday homes bathroom then simple things like adding a funky toilet seat can make the world of a difference and are straight-forward to fit.

If you want to save time and money on cleaning and cleaning products, and the bathroom is needing a lick of paint, then it is worth considering painting your bathroom with anti mould paint. Although it is more expensive than normal paint it will last longer, stay looking fresh for longer and in the long run save you money and smaller bathrooms are more susceptible to mould!

DIY Living Room Tips

If you have small living area in your luxury holiday home and want to enhance the feeling of space, the addition of a large mirror to a wall can have fabulous effects. Not only does it reflect the room, increasing the feeling of space but reflects light too, brightening things up.

Other small changes to upgrade the overall look are changing over light switches and plug fittings from plastic to attractive metal finishes. Be sure to switch off all electrics prior to undertaking this work!

Top Fife Attractions you have to Visit

The Kingdom of Fife is a fine place.

It occupies a peninsula formed by the Firth of Forth to the South and the Firth of Tay to the North. This small region has a unique variety of landscapes, an extensive rocky coastline and golden sands – the only region in Scotland to boast three award winning Blue Flag beaches. Inland lies the peaceful Howe of abundant grassland, rich woodland and rolling hills of fertile farm land. East and West Lomond Hills are prominent landmarks and the centre of Scotland’s first Regional Park . This is the Kingdom of Fife whose existence as a separate entity can be traced back to the Pictish Kingdom of Fib in the centuries after the departure of the Romans.

In our latest blog, we explore the best of Fife attractions to help you plan your escape to our Kingdom.

East Neuk of Fife

The East Neak (Neuk is the old Scots word for corner) is the name given to the wedge of land around the eastern peninsula and is famous for its picturesque fishing villages and harbours such Crail, Anstruther , Pittenweem St Monans , Anstruther and Cellardyke – a quaint village and old fishing settlement – site of the Silverdyke Caravan park.

Activities in Fife

The East Neuk is home to some of the finest beaches and water-sport facilities. In the sandy cove of Elie Bay a range of sports are offered by Elie water-sports – sailing, windsurfing, sea kayaking, water skiing in the sheltered waters or heading out to sea if more experienced.

Elie has one of Scotland’s most highly regarded golf courses. It is an 18 hole course with sensational views and combines undulating fairways with large, fast and firm greens.

The Fife Coastal Path (117 miles) is clearly way-marked and runs along the East Neuk and offers a range of walking experiences from easy and level to more demanding (Official Guide Book available 01592 656080, £9.99) Search for fossils and explore the Arthropleura (Giant Centipedes) Trackways on Crail bays west of the Harbour. This is considered one of the most beautiful Fife attractions by tourists far and wide.

For those with bikes, the Costal East Neuk Railway Path Circular Route passes through the region offering a low level route from Crail to Kinsbarns.

Gillingshill Nature Reserve with abundant grassland near Anstruther, provides a diversity of habitats that supports a wide range of breeding birds and is known for it’s bluebells in early summer. Boat trips can be taken from Anstuther to the Isle of May ,a National Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary with the largest puffin colony in the UK (Anstruther Pleasure Trips)

History of Fife

Kellie Castle (National Trust) is 2 miles north of Pittenweem, dating back to 1150. The library Ceiling is one of the oldest ornamental plaster ceilings in Scotland and the Dining room has painted panelling painted by 17th century Dutch artists. The castle garden are beautiful and relaxing with roses and herbaceous plants. An excellent tearoom is available offering lunches, dinners coffee, tea and cakes.

Anstruther is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum detailing fishing history from its inception to the present day. Inland between Crail and Anstruther is Scotland’s Secret Bunker, for 40years one of Scotland’s best kept secrets, where under a farmhouse a tunnel leads to 24,000ft of secret accommodation intended for use in a nuclear war.

East of the beautiful village of St Monans, and situated on a raised beach is St Monans Windmill a reminder of the industrial past – the production of salt. The windmill provided the power to pump seawater into the saltpans which were then heated by coal mined nearby. It is still possible to see where the saltpans stood

Shopping in Fife

The shops in the villages offer many treasures from fashion and jewellery , fine art and ceramics and artisan food and drink. Crail Pottery arranged around a lovely courtyard offers a creative and unique range of pottery hand made on the premises. Browse in Old House Interiors to find something that little bit different. The Kinloch Gallery exhibits beautifully crafted hand-made furniture. A visit can also be made to Old Tom Morris Shop – the world’s oldest golf shop.

The East Neuk of Fife is a key holiday destination for young and old alike. A compact region of exceptional beauty, variety and interest.

8 Essential Items to pack for a Caravan Break

Packing for a holiday can be the most stressful part of your trip. From forgetting toothbrushes to your home comforts, these little touches can make all the difference. To help you prepare for your break away, we’ve compiled a list of eight essential items to pack for a caravan break!

Board Games

Who can say no to a good game of Monopoly? The game is family orientated, suitable for all ages (though the little pieces can be swallowed –keep the K9’s away!) and it’s fair to say if you don’t end up with a “Go to Jail” card, you’re onto a winner! If Monopoly isn’t your thing, perhaps a great game of Cluedo! Get your investigator hat on and find out who killed Miss Scarlet in the drawing room with the candlestick! Board games have always been a good source of entertainment and spark hilarious conversations!

Bring a brilliant book!

Sometimes it’s great to just sit back, relax and escape away from reality for a while. Try taking a good book on holiday with you, literature is a great way of relaxing you – the only hazard you have to watch out for is dozing off in the sun! Understandably not everyone is into the same kind of book, so find a genre that grips your attention! If you liked Cluedo then you should check out some good crime novels. If you’re a little more into the fantasy but don’t want to go with the mainstream charts, check out some works by the late Terry Pratchett. Up for a bit of Action? Look out for books by Matthew Reilly. There’s nothing better than laying in bed (or on a sun lounger) glued to a good book!

 Wine!

Celebrate good times, come on! Get your party on, the kids are with your parents, you’re not at work, it’s just the two of you alone, in a caravan, for an entire weekend break! Fancy a bit of Rosé, a deep red, or a wonderful white? There’s no reason not to and with beautiful panoramic sea views, it’s the perfect chance to capture the romance and enjoy a good glass with the spouse!

 Camera

You’re  on holiday! Be it at Silverdyke Park or faraway, you’re still going to be making memories – make them all the more vivid with some good snaps. Don’t pack it in the suitcase though, often some of the best pictures are taken on the way to and from the campsite! Upload your photos onto your Facebook when you get home and share the experience with your friends!

Food

Tinned food is always a plus when it comes to camping and caravan holidays, most campsites are self-catering so bringing food in tins is a great idea because they have longevity, foods like soup are easy to heat up and you can even get desserts in tins if you’re still feeling peckish after dinner!

Tin Opener

If you’re going to eat tinned food, then you might be best investing in a tin opener. If your on the go on your action packed caravan trip, the likelihood is that a tin opener is going to be your best friend.

Toilet Paper

This is a really easy one to forget, and yes, most campsites will supply caravans with toilet roll and basic toiletries, but what happens if you run out in the middle of the night? Or what if you suffer an unfortunate bout of unexpected hayfever? Toilet roll is a vital part of your day, whether you want to admit it or not, you probably use it at least three times a day for whatever, from blowing your nose to cleaning spilled juice.

Welly Boots

Most campsites are in fields and this means you’re going to need wellies! A pair of rubber Wellington boots can save your socks all year round. The best thing about wellies is that the come in all different sizes and colours, so you can have the most shocking bright pink wellies or a subdued classic green. Now not only do your feet get puddle protection but they now you can also strut in style.
