Kellie Castle

If you are looking for days out in Fife then why not visit Kellie Castle. Located just outside the village of Arncroach and only five miles from Silverdyke Caravan Park.

What Kellie Castle has to offer

Kellie Castle has lots to offer, both inside and out. Inside the castle you can explore and discover what life was like for the laird, his family and their servants. The castle has magnificent painted panelling, incredible plaster ceilings, including one of the oldest ornamental ceilings in Scotland, and also fine furniture designed by the famous Scottish architect, Sir Robert Lorimer.

History of the castle

The origins of Kellie are thought to date back to the 1100’s and the earliest parts of the castle date from as early as the 1360. Walter Oliphant inherited the estate that year and his family remained resident in Kellie Castle for a further 250 years. The castle was once home to the Earls of Kellie and was charmingly restored by the Lorimer Family in the late 18oo’s.

Garden and Grounds

The grounds and garden could easily be a day out in themselves, with numerous woodland walks, a bird hide and an abundance of nature. Whether it’s a stroll past the pond, or through the meadow to the bird hide. There are numerous short walks around the estate which link with other local routes to the surrounding villages and Kellie Law. The walled garden is also a fantastic feature and the carefully tended gardens a real delight. You can even treat yourself to fresh fruit and vegetables grown in the garden!
